His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Abdulhadi Lahweej, the Minister's Advisor and the Director of the International Organizations Department Dr. Faraj Al-Hassi, received a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Mr. Imad Abdel Rahman UNHCR Response Coordinator and the Government Liaison Officer This was to hand over the UNHCR Humanitarian Response Plan for the crisis of the displaced persons from the brotherly state of Sudan. The meeting witnessed an extensive discussion on the legal frameworks for dealing with the UNHCR, and the emphasis on the importance of working according to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The discussion covered various matters, including the legal status of the UNHCR and other international organizations, the Memorandum of Understanding that links the UNHCR and its legal status, as well as access to the affected areas. His Excellency stressed the importance of the organization’s work with the committee appointed by the Prime Minister's Office to investigate the situation of our displaced brothers from the brotherly state of Sudan, and to work according to the needs of the Ministerial Committee. The Honorable Minister was briefed on the latest updates and reports related to the United Nations mission. He also stressed the constant importance of the presence of the local partner in the work and the development of plans, according to the local partner, and that these organizations should not interfere in political or religious matters, nor violate the teachings of Islam and respect the Libyan customs and traditions.
