The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, commissioned by the Libyan Government, participates in the proceedings of the Fifty-Sixth Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Abdulhadi Lahweej, participated in the proceedings of the 56th Session of the Human Rights Council at the session dedicated to Libya and the discussion of the Council's annual report on the situation in Libya from March 2023 to April 2024, with broad participation from various countries around the world. It was recorded that this report worked on misleading generalization and many fallacies, especially since some of the information was based on reports and information from social media, and not on documented and accurate information. In this context, the Minister presented a written intervention that included responses to all the fallacies mentioned in the report, translated into English, French and Spanish, and distributed to ambassadors of countries’ representatives of international organizations and civil society. The Minister also met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker Türk, to discuss matters concerning Libya and invite him to expand the scope of his visit to the areas managed by the Libyan government, while ensuring that human rights work is not politicized. He emphasized that the Libyan Armed Forces, the Libyan Government and the Libyan House of Representatives are very keen to respect the principles of human rights, public freedoms, the rule of law and institutions, and that migrants and displaced persons are receiving special care and attention, especially during the increasing numbers of displaced people due to the repercussions of the war in the brotherly state of Sudan.
